The Chandler Estate House
Lucas, Texas
Slated for demolition, this 1899 farmhouse was lovingly restored to full function as a home, and then later relocated in its entirety to avoid the bulldozers for a new, residential development. The city of Lucas, Texas, was unsure how to permit and approve the relocation of a building. HDGroup guided the process to benefit both the community (by maintaining one of the original homes built in the small community), as well as the owners (offering a unique and inspirational property to enjoy). This home offers a constant reminder of what can be accomplished when passion and expertise align.
McDonald's Corporation
Union Station, Washington, D.C.
Within historic Union Station in our nation’s capital, the developer set strict requirements for tenants of the newly restored station to follow design guidelines with sensitivity to the historic structure. Our principal, Wendy Hunter, (a McDonald's employee at the time) suggested recreating an original free-standing McDonalds inside Union Station complete with 25' tall arches that spanned 40' of customer dining space. Upon completion of construction in 1991, the Washington, D.C. branch of the American Institute of Architects issued the Merit Award for Interior Design to the architectural firm (Sumon Sorg and Associates) and the contractor who completed this project.
Chili's "Chili Pepper" Building
Aurora, Colorado
Brinker International envisioned this Chili's location as a landmark building representative of the concept's unique ability to establish and maintain the brand’s culture for twenty years. Designed by world-renowned architect James Wines of SITE Environmental Design, the unusually shaped Chili Pepper building was a challenge to obtain design approval by the City of Aurora. Working closely with the City Design Staff, our principal Wendy Hunter (a Brinker International employee at the time) negotiated a resolution allowing construction of this landmark building that continues to give pause to auto traffic who glimpse its facade from the roadway.
